Two hurt on Monday in separate accidents

A pedestrian and a motorcyclist were each seriously injured after two separate traffic accidents on Hillcrest Drive in Thousand Oaks on Monday.

A 15-year-old pedestrian was allegedly struck by a 2005 VW GTI driven by Jolanna Freitas, 30, of Oxnard. The accident occurred at 7:30 p.m. Mon., Feb. 2, when Freitas, who was driving west on Hillcrest Drive just west of San Carlos Drive, saw the back of the teenager, who was wearing dark clothing, as he was crossing the street, but she was unable to avoid hitting him, according to police. She did hit her brakes, police said.

"Unfortunately he was crossing in an area that is not well lit," said Traffic Sgt. Bob Fleming. It was after dark.

The male juvenile, a Thousand Oaks resident, was seriously injured and taken by ambulance to Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center, where he was in serious but stable condition. "His prognosis is good," Fleming said.

His name is kept confidential because he's a minor. The investigation is continuing.

Deputies are also still reviewing a crash involving a motorcyclist and a vehicle that occurred at 2:50 p.m. Mon., Feb. 2.

Westlake Village resident Denis Liu, 61, was exiting a parking lot in a 2003 Buick Rendezvous onto Hillcrest Drive. Thousand Oaks resident Ambrosio Rodriguez, 33, was riding a 1994 Ducati motorcycle east on Hillcrest Drive approaching Boardwalk Avenue when he collided with the passenger side of the Buick. The impact from the motorcycle caused the vehicle to overturn, coming to rest on its side, police said.

Rodriguez suffered serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center. He also was in serious but stable condition, Fleming said.

"He went down hard and has multiple fractures to his right side," Fleming said.

Liu sustained minor injuries.

Neither driver is suspected of driving under the influence, Fleming said.
