Low-income seniors get income tax assistance

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, in cooperation with the Internal Revenue Service, will provide free income tax assistance for seniors age 60 or older and anyone with an income of $45,000 or less regardless of age.

Assistance will be given from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays at the Newbury Park Library, 2331 Borchard Road, Newbury Park; and from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays at the Goebel Senior Adult Center, 1385 E. Janss Road, Thousand Oaks.

No appointments will be taken.

Participants should bring photo identification and Social Security card, Social Security benefits statement, wage and earning statements, property tax bill, amount received in 2008 economic stimulus payment, interest and dividend statements from banks, a copy of last year's federal and state return, bank routing numbers and account numbers for direct deposit and other relevant information about income and expenses.
