Guest speaker's topic: Influenza

The Discovery Center for Science and Technology will host "Science Everyone Can Understand" in its Science Speaker Series from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Thurs., Feb. 12 at Baxter biosciences, One Baxter Way, Westlake Village.

Dr. Barbara Spraktes-Wilkins, chief epidemiologist of the Ventura County Department of Health, will discuss the potential of the flu becoming a worldwide pandemic.

The remaining lectures will be Dr. Steven Norris, Cal State Channel Islands professor, talking about the oceans on March 12, and Dr. Jim Heath of Cal Tech discussing cancerfighting technology on April 16

Tickets are $15 for a single lecture or $40 for the three remaining lectures of the season. Seniors, teachers and students receive discounts.
