Classic film series comes to Thousand Oaks Library

The Grant Brimhall/Thousand Oaks Library will host a series of all-time great films at 7 p.m. Thursdays beginning tonight, Jan. 29 through Feb. 19 in the library community room, 1401 E. Janss Road. All programs are free.

•Jan. 29. Federico Fellini's "8½" (1967, not rated, subtitles). A harried movie director retreats into his memories and fantasies.

•Feb. 5. John Huston's "The Maltese Falcon" (1941, not rated). Sam Spade, a private detective, gets involved in a hunt for a valuable statuette.

•Feb. 12. Ingmar Bergman's "Wild Strawberries" (1957, not rated, subtitles). After living a life marked by coldness, an aging professor confronts the emptiness of his existence.

•Feb. 19. Alfred Hitchcock's "Vertigo" (1958, not rated). A San Francisco detective suffering from acrophobia investigates the strange activities of an old friend's wife, all the while becoming dangerously obsessed with her.

•Sat., Feb. 21. Annual PreOscar Party at 2 p.m. The 2007 Oscar winners in the short film category will be shown, as well as a movie trivia contest, Oscar Pick contest and refreshments.
