UCLA offers extension courses UCLA Extension will present the following one-day seminars and on-site study tours. •Paul Williams: Architect to the Stars illustrates the legacy of Paul Williams, an African American architect who used stylized and elegant designs for the homes of some of Hollywood's celebrities. The class meets from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sat., Feb. 7 at the UCLA Extension Lindbrook Center, 10920 Lindbrook Drive, Westwood. Eleanor Shrader Schapa, art and architectural history professor at Santa Monica College, is the leader. The fee is $60. •Design in Venice: A Walking Tour takes participants on a stroll of Venice, Calif., focusing on the designers and artists who work there. A pre-tour seminar will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. Fri., Feb. 20 at the UCLA Extension Building, 10995 Le Conte Ave., Westwood. The tour will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sat., Feb. 21. The course is led by Michael Hricak, principal, Michael Hricak Architects. The fee is $225. •On Broadway: Exploring Downtown L.A.'s Past and Future uncovers the history and evolution of Los Angeles' most iconic streets, from opulent movie palaces to condo conversions. A pre-tour seminar will meet from 7 to 10 p.m. Fri., March 20 at 20 at the UCLA Extension Building, 10995 Le Conte Ave., Westwood. The tour will be from 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Sat., March 21. The course is led by architect and graphic design artist David du Mars. The fee is $225. •Stories in Ceramics: A Thousand Years of Decorative Tiles examines the visual design of decorative tiles, from medieval Islamic palaces to Art Deco apartments. The class will meet from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sat., March 21 the UCLA Extension Lindbrook Center, 10920 Lindbrook Drive, Westwood. The class will be led by Eleanor Shrader Schapa. The fee is $50.
