Use local talent for branding our city
I was amazed to read about the $89,000 branding fiasco. Thanks to those who want to keep work here locally. We have major talent here. I don't think the city has done its due diligence to find it.

Frustrated that Costco pulled out, can the city help?
After just reading the Jan. 22 article titled "Costco hits a snag with landowner," I'm frustrated that once again Newbury Park might get left in the dust. As a 37-year resident of Newbury Park who has also taught in this city for 30 years, I, like all N.P. residents, have had to shop at Costco by driving 20 minutes either to Westlake Village or Oxnard.

School closure mess continues to frustrate everyone
I read the article "District looks at options for school sites that will close next fall" in the Jan. 22 Acorn . I was struck by two observations. Obama makes bad early decision to close Guantanamo
It seems odd that a judge would hand down an order to delay the pending trials of some of the Guantanamo detainees based solely on the "request" from the new president. Where was the hearing? Where was the input from the families of the 9/11 victims and the military personnel who were killed by some of those on trial?

New president leaves her full of optimism
Positive thinking, seeing and feeling makes our bodies and hearts happy. I've never felt so good about our world and all the people in it as I felt watching all the events before, during and after Jan. 20. President Obama, First Lady Michelle and their children, Malia Ann and Natasha, changed the way I think about all mankind.

City shouldn't just give the cold shoulder to its hobbyists
I read in the Acorn that when asked for help in using city property for flying model gliders, Thousand Oaks City Manager Scott Mitnick said, "We're in the wastewater business there and not in the recreation business.
