The man who repaired Bear
      My wife changed our plans, canceling my casual get-together with some friends and setting a more important get-together of her own. I was available to watch our 5-year-old son that Saturday evening after all. The three-bedroom house was silent—not the silence of mischief, but the silence associated with peace—and I was enjoying it.

     A TIME TO PLAY- Juliet Marcroft, 6, left, Maddie Cupples, 5, and Emily Spaeth, 6, of Thousand Oaks hang out at Thousand Oaks Community Park. The girls, all in kindergarten at Madrona Elementary School, have brothers who play basketball with Conejo Youth Basketball. Girl Scouts lend a helping hand
     MAKING WORK FUN- Members of Girl Scout Troop No. 60799 helped remodel and decorate ReStore, Habitat for Humanity's Ventura County thrift store for building and remodeling materials and appliances. The volunteers are, from left, Hannah Press, Eileen Davies, Etta D'Orazio, Katie Weibezahl and Effie Sklavanitis. All are eighth-graders at Colina Middle School except Eileen, who goes to Redwood Middle School, and Etta, who attends Lindero Canyon Middle School in Agoura Hills. Series of classes will teach word processing skills
      Members of H2U (Health, Happiness, You), formerly known as Friends of Los Robles Hospital, can take two levels of training to learn about computers. The classes, sponsored by Los Robles Hospital, will be at the medical center, 215 W. Janss Road, in T.O. Classes will be for two hours and require a Windows XP system.

La Reina welcomes new students
Entrance placement tests scheduled
      La Reina High School will conduct an entrance placement test for prospective students on Sat., Jan. 31. The application deadline is tomorrow., Jan. 30. Prospective students for 200910 have the option of spending a school day at La Reina, shadowing a student and visiting classes.
