Doing a wheelie, motorcyclist is seriously injured

A teenager doing a wheelie on a sports motorcycle was seriously injured when he crashed into a motor home parked on the side of the road, according to traffic Sgt. Jim Kenny. The victim wasn't wearing a helmet.

Thousand Oaks resident Christian Klocheck, 19, was riding east in the 800 block of Calle Tulipan, not far from his home, at 1 p.m. Jan. 26 when the front wheel of the motorcycle he was riding lifted off the pavement and he hit a parked motor home.

Klocheck was transported to Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center where by Tuesday he was in stable condition after sustaining a head injury and internal injuries in the accident.

"It's important to wear a helmet and to ride within your abilities," Kenny said.

Kenny also pointed out wheelies are something people do in stunt areas or on race tracks but not on residential streets, where it's illegal.
