Homeschooling is an alternative to public schools
I'm a University Elementary School mom who's heartbroken about the school closure.
I have a child there and see first hand the stress it's causing our children.
However, that being said, I think the school board needs to look at why enrollment is down in the first place .
Yes, house prices were ridiculous, budget cuts are coming, but to blame it solely on that is unfair and untrue. Mothers like me are sick of sitting by watching our children suffer, so we turn to homeschool.
A school is only as strong as its weakest student and the ability to reach out and help that student succeed. The principals and teachers that I have dealt with have done nothing of the sort for my child.
I've talked with countless parents that are also dissatisfied with the way our struggling children are being disregarded and swept under the rug. The principals and teachers need to be taught and educated on how to help our kids.
There are over 250 homeschooled children in Conejo Valley and (the list is) growing everyday. Until Conejo Valley Unified School District takes notice of this and makes changes in our schools, they will continue to see a decline in enrollment.
How many schools will have to close before the school board sits up and takes notice?
I applaud all the mothers that have taken back control over their child's education and brought teaching into the home.
I'm still fighting for change. Libby Stolper Thousand Oaks
