Training to start soon for foster and adoptive parents

Sessions will be held at church in Newbury Park

ACTION (Area Christians Taking Initiative On Needs) is sponsoring a training and support network for foster and adoptive parents from 9 to 11 a.m. Sat., Feb. 7, April 4 and June 13 at EvFree Church, 999 Rancho Conejo Blvd. in Newbury Park.

The meetings will have one hour of training and equipping and one hour of support and networking.

Kris Bennett, director of AspiraNet Foster Family Services, will discuss "A child's journey through the foster care system" on Feb. 7.

Tom Prinz, marriage and family therapist, will present "Dragon slaying for foster and adoptive parents" on April 4.

Carolyn Jones, behavioral consultant from Salem, Ore., will talk about "Nurturing a child's heart" on June 13.

The training is for foster and adoptive parents, as well as educators, professionals, and volunteers who are serving as camp counselors, mentors or respite care.

The meetings are for all who want to consider becoming a foster or adoptive parent, learn more about the needs of foster and adopted children and youth, or volunteer to help serve foster and adoptive parents, children, or youth.

ACTION partners with the Foster & Kinship Care Education agency and other foster care agencies to sponsor these meetings.
