T.O. man arrested by LAPD
      Thousand Oaks resident Dennis Archie, 58, was arrested for commercial bribery on Jan. 12 by the Los Angles Police Department during a sting operation.

Rash of burglaries occurs on Thousand Oaks Boulevard
      Three Thousand Oaks Boulevard businesses—Enrique's Mexican Restaurant, Roxy's Famous Deli and For Heavens Cakes—were burglarized during the night of Thurs., Jan. 15 or the early morning of Fri., Jan. 16. Each business was entered after the burglars smashed a window.

Woman facing manslaughter charge gets delay in court
      Diane Shakhov appeared at the Ventura County Courthouse on Jan. 15 to determine if she's competent to stand trial a second time on manslaughter charges, but the hearing was postponed for another week. "We're contemplating a resolution," Shakhov's attorney Howard Price said.

      Alan Olin, 47, former treasurer of the Conejo Valley Soccer Club, recently pleaded guilty to one felony count of grant theft and admitted that the theft exceeded $65,000.

Renovated Founders Room opens in T.O.
      Alliance for the Arts recently unveiled the newly renovated Verizon Founders Room inside the Fred Kavli Theatre at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza. The alliance spearheaded the renovation of the room at the suggestion of Ron Plotkin, major alliance donor and Founders Circle chairman. Plotkin had donated a gift of $100,000 toward a remodel of the room.

      A Conejo Valley threesome called Trek for Troops is preparing to hike the Pacific Crest Trail, a 2,650-mile journey. But they aren't doing it just for fun and to stay physically fit. They will embark on the rigorous fourmonth trip to help U.S. war veterans.

Reaching the pinnacle
     Brian Ginell EAGLE SCOUT- Brian Michael Ginell, 15, of Thousand Oaks received his Eagle Scout Award in a court of honor ceremony on Jan. 11. Brian's Eagle project benefitted the band and physical education departments of Redwood Middle School. He built storage shelves for the marching band's percussion section and also installed storage for P.E. equipment. He led a crew of 38 volunteers. Brian is a sophomore at Thousand Oaks High School, where he's an honor student and a member of the boys' soccer and volleyball teams. He's the son of Gail and Cary Ginell.

Amgen helps Many Mansions
      The Amgen Foundation recently awarded a two-year $80,000 grant to Many Mansions for the continuation and expansion of programs and services for its adult residents. Many Mansions' Adult Services program serves homeless individuals, low and very low income families, and the physically and mentally disabled.

Model airplanes cannot fly on city property
      When Thousand Oaks resident Bill Bertrum approached the Thousand Oaks City Council on Jan. 13, he'd already approached many members of city staff seeking permission to fly model gliders on land owned by the city. He'd received mostly negative feedback, he said, except from Councilmember Jacqui Irwin.

Getting married
     TO TAKE THEIR VOWS IN FRANCE- - Ashley Anderson of Westlake Village, daughter of the late Nancy Gross of Westlake Village and Keith Anderson of Stillwater, Minn. will marry Ramsey Fauset of Flagstaff, Ariz., son of Renee and Chris Fauset of Flagstaff, Ariz. on May 7 in the south of France. The wedding and reception will be at the Villa Massoury in Villefranche-sur-Mer. Ashley graduated from Cal State University Long Beach with a bachelor's degree in dance. Ramsey graduated from Arizona State University with a degree in guitar performance. They live in Los Angeles. Colleen Harley of Westlake Village, best friend of the bride, will be the maid of honor and Japer Fauset of West Jordan, Utah, brother of the groom, will be the best man. The couple will honeymoon in Bora Bora.
