Traffic will get worse with Costco

I'm sickened by the Acorn's opinion that the proposed Costco in Newbury Park is a wonderful thing, because it is not.

If you've been to the Wendy/ 101 offramps lately, you'd know the already existing congestion is horrible. The whole area is a complete nightmare already, and you want to invite more people to come through there?

I take great offense at your labels of those that have lived here for 30-plus years, claiming we are relics that live in the past.

I've been here for 38 years, since I was less than a year old. I know what promise this city used to hold and what's been lost to it forever.

If you wanted to live in the San Fernando Valley with all of its "perks" and shopping magnets, then that's where you should have moved. But do not move into my city and tell me that it needs to be changed to suit your desires.

This is just as much my city as yours, and this Costco project is, literally, in my backyard.

You may love the convenience of saving a whole five minutes on your Costco run, but I have to drive in this area countless times per day to get to my home, the grocery store, etc.

My voice and my opinion shouldn't be overshadowed by your labeling and name-calling. I live here and this affects me!

And no amount of tax revenue is worth turning Newbury Park into Canoga Park! Cristy Richey-McNay Newbury Park
