Volunteers needed to count the homeless in Thousand Oaks

Many Mansions is seeking volunteers to help with the 2009 Homeless Count.

A volunteer training session will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Mon., Jan. 19 at Many Mansions Villa Garcia property, 1419 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd., Thousand Oaks. The session is recommended but not mandatory to participate in the count.

The 2009 Homeless Count will be held from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tues., Jan. 27 throughout Thousand Oaks.

Volunteers will be paired up and sent out to assigned areas to count homeless people and collect data.

The count is part of the 10Year Plan to End Homelessness. It will provide data to local service providers and policy makers regarding the county's homeless population and the need for additional shelter facilities.
