Motorized items can be donated and are tax-deductible
The American Cancer Society's Cars for a Cure program is accepting donations of most running and nonrunning vehicles, including cars, trucks, vans, motor homes, boats, jet skis, motorcycles, ATVs and snowmobiles.
All donations must meet the established criteria for the program, which includes value, condition and geographic location.
Cars for a Cure is the only authorized vehicle donation program for the American Cancer Society. The society receives 75 percent to 80 percent of the vehicle's sale price.
Last year the program generated more than $500,000 in California to help fund cancer research, education and advocacy as well as patient services programs.
Donors receive a tax receipt in compliance with IRS regulations.
Donors should check with a tax adviser or the IRS to find out how a vehicle donation will benefit them.
Some of the patient service programs funded by Cars for a Cure proceeds include Look Good . . . Feel Better, Man to Man and Road to Recovery.
