Not too cold to get out and play
     WENDY PIERRO/Acorn Newspapers WIND CHILL FACTOR DOESN'T MATTER- John Cavanagh, 5, of Thousand Oaks and his baby sitter, Maggie Stanley of West Hills, are bundled up as they challenge the chilly temperatures to frolic in Oakbrook Neighborhood Park. On Jan. 3 the pair played in the sand and got a little damp going down the slide before hitting the swings, one of John's favorite activities.

Poetry Out Loud competition is coming to Ventura in February
      The Ventura County Arts Council has announced that the Rubicon Theatre Company in Ventura's downtown cultural district will host this year's Poetry Out Loud National Recitation Contest county competition on Thurs., Feb. 19.

     WOMEN FIGHT HUNGER- The Westlake Women's Club gives two checks totaling $3,160 to Manna, the Conejo Valley food bank. UCLA to present Writers Studio
      UCLA Extension will present the 2009 Writers Studio, four days of intensive writing workshops held Feb. 5 through 8 at 1010 Westwood Center, Los Angeles. The studio brings together a community of aspiring creative writers and screenwriters to work with accomplished instructors. Writers of all levels are welcome.
