Surf team from Los Cerritos a force in its first competitive season
      Give them cheese and pepperoni, and they will come. And that's how the surf team at Los Cerritos Middle School in Thousand Oaks got started—a morning announcement over the loudspeaker informing those who were interested about a lunchtime meeting in the classroom of sixthgrade math, science and physical education teacher Steve Sipes.

     TWICE AS NICE—The Region 4 BU-14 All Star soccer team won a doubleheader, taking first place at the Panther Shootout tournament in Newbury Park and also finishing first in the Shootout competition. Perfect finish for 14-0 Westlake Braves
      The Westlake Braves defeated the Santa Barbara Chargers in a United Bowl championship Senior Division game. Westlake is from the Gold Coast Youth Football League, while Santa Barbara competes in the Tri-Valley Youth Football League.

      Newbury Park's Jeff Williams raced to another victory and his third straight championship in his Ford powered F-150 West Coast Pro Truck at I-10 Speedway. Williams is the first driver in the history of the series to win three championships.

January an important month for boys' basketball teams
Thousand Oaks to host Simi Valley on Jan. 7 in a highly anticipated Marmonte match-up
      Marmonte League boys' basketball action will resume next week, but three of the league's teams are already off to blazing starts. Last season's league champion, Simi Valley High, has come out of the gates strong by winning 10 of its first 13 games, including a pair of Marmonte contests.
