Officers from Thousand Oaks Police Department will be on the lookout for children doing good deeds The Thousand Oaks Police Department, in conjunction with 7-Eleven, is teaming up to reward children for doing good deeds in the community. Deputies are rewarding children who do something helpful, practice safety or deter crime in the community with coupons for a free 12ounce Slurpee from 7-Eleven. The program was designed to promote good citizenship and offers opportunities for officers to interact with youngsters in a nonlawenforcement situation. Some officers use the coupons to reward kids for wearing bicycle helmets, doing good deeds, participating in community activities, picking up trash, deterring crime or observing school pedestrian crossing rules. This is the first summer police have used Operation Chill in Thousand Oaks. Since the national program's inception in 1996, nearly 10 million coupons have been distributed to hundreds of law enforcement agencies across the country in areas where 7-Eleven operates stores. |
