Disappointed the Health Fair has been postponed

Many of us senior residents in the local area were just notified that the excellent, effective Los Robles annual Health Fair has been canceled. This top quality medical program has been part of the local community for the past 10 years. Now, suddenly, it is canceled a few weeks before the June 7 event date.

What happened?

The mailer sent to us didn't mention why the last minute cancellation, just that it will run next in 2009.

It's a volunteer event by the hospital staff, top quality caregivers from many fields.

It would be a great community service to have the Acorn research and report as to why Los Robles canceled this health fair that over the past 10 years has served more than a 1,000 seniors above age 55.

Editor's note: Los Robles tells us that due to the large amount of resources required to put on the health fair, the event has been adjusted to every other year.

The hospital, meanwhile, has increased the amount of community education it provides through a partnership with The Oaks mall and invites the community to attend bimonthly educational seminars called Health Chats scheduled for every third and fourth Thursday of the month from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the lower level mall in front of Macy's women's store.

A wide variety of health-related topics are discussed, blood pressure screenings are provided, and refreshments are served. For details about this program, call (805) 370-4464.
