Please support Conejo Valley Days because it helps charities and worthy causes in our own backyard

If you have them, put on your jeans, boots and cowboy hats because Conejo Valley Days has arrived. For some families, this is the second happiest time of year. The winter holidays, of course, come first. The end of April and the beginning of May, however, are thoroughly enjoyable, too.

Conejo Valley Days is one of the most successful events of its kind in the United States.

Many nonprofit organizations will benefit from the money that's spent at the carnival site at Conejo Creek Park South on Janss Road, just east of the 23 Freeway.

Other worthy causes have already benefited from the race for grand marshal and junior grand marshal, the chili cook-off and the kickoff picnic and car show.

Whether you're young or old, there are things to do now through Sunday.

The carnival this year includes a fine lineup of entertainment, and the exhibitors' tent is for everyone.

Tickets to the carnival were also sold at schools, a fundraiser for them because they pocketed part of the proceeds.

The carnival rides are the chief attraction. There are rides for toddlers and grownups and everybody in between. If you're older, it's fun to stroll the site and just observe the activities. Many of the food and beverage vendors use the proceeds to support their philanthropic efforts. What makes Conejo Valley Days so beneficial is that most of the money stays right here and helps worthy causes at home.

Don't forget the CVD Parade on Saturday. Today's paper includes a pullout program in the center four pages of this issue--pages 37, 38, 39 and 40.  The parade gives us a chance to look at ourselves. Our school bands, by the way, are truly exceptional. It's fun, too, to watch people on horseback. Automobile aficionados will appreciate some of the great cars in the parade.

Please support CVD because it supports Conejo Valley.
