Global Exchange panel to discuss Middle East peace

Global Exchange Ventura County Supporters will sponsor a panel discussion on peace in the Middle East from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wed., May 28 at the Thousand Oaks Library, 1401 E. Janss Road, Thousand Oaks.

Panelists will be Ilan Migdali of Project TRIUMPH (Today's Revolution Is Understanding: Make Peace Happen) and Shepha Schneirsohn Vainstein of Salaam Shalom.

The title of the discussion is "The Audacity of Peace: Ordinary People Do Extraordinary Work for Peace in the Middle East."

Migdali proposed and helped the Rotary Club create Project TRIUMPH, which is now in its third year. Project TRIUMPH brings 20 Arab and Jewish teenagers from Israel to Ventura County each year for two weeks of team building workshops and events.

Vainstein is president and founder of Salaam Shalom Education Foundation. She codeveloped a High School Peace Leadership Program sponsored by the foundation for Jewish and Arab students in Galilee. The goal of the program is to promote pro-social development, community participation and matriculation in university for Jewish and Arab students.
