'Fablehaven' author to read to kids at local schools

Brandon Mull, author of the "Fablehaven" children's book series, will speak at local schools about the importance of reading and sign his latest book on April 23 in Thousand Oaks.

Mull formerly lived in Thousand Oaks and graduated from Westlake High School in 1992.

Mull's latest book, "Fablehaven: Rise of the Evening Star," the second volume in the series, debuted on the New York Times children's best-seller list and Avi Arda, producer of the "Spiderman" movies, recently bought the movie rights.

The series feature a sister and brother who set out to save a preserve for enchanted creatures.

Mull will talk to an assembly at 9 a.m. Wed., April 23 at Walnut Elementary School in Newbury Park, followed by assemblies at 11 a.m. at Maple Elementary School in Newbury Park and at 2 p.m. at Weathersfield Elementary School in Thousand Oaks, and a book signing at 7 p.m. at Borders Books, 125 W. Thousand Oaks Blvd., Thousand Oaks.
