Highway signs are being replaced at night on 23 Freeway between T. O. and Moorpark

All lanes on the northbound 23 Freeway from Tierra Rejada Road to Los Angeles Avenue in Moorpark and southbound from Janss Road to the 101 Freeway were closed nightly this week for sign installation work, said state Department of Transportation spokesperson Judy Gish.

The new structures comply with the most uptodate standards to protect the public by providing signs that are safer and have better visibility, she said.

The support structures of the signs are shielded either by a metal beam guard rail or concrete railing so that the barrier itself- not the sign- will absorb any impact resulting from an accident, Gish said.

Caltrans is also aware of the mileage discrepancy on two northbound signs that give different distances between Olsen and Tierra Rejada roads.

Plans are underway to correct the error as soon as possible, Gish said.

Security Paving is the contractor on this $65-million project, which added a new lane in each direction on the 23 Freeway from the 101 Freeway to Los Angeles Avenue in Moorpark.
