New West Symphony concert to feature guest violinist
The New West Symphony will conduct the sixth concert of the 2007-08 Masterpiece Series at 8 p.m. Sat., April 5 at the Countrywide Performing Arts Center at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, 2100 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd., Thousand Oaks.
The concert will feature violinist Elmar Oliveira and guest conductor Yehuda Gilad. The program will include Ludwig van Beethoven's Overture to "Egmont," Opus 84; Symphony No. 4 in A Major, Opus 90 "Italian" by Felix Mendelssohn; and Johannes Brahms' Concerto in D Major for Violin and Orchestra, Opus 77.
Oliveira is the only American violinist to have won the gold medal at the Tchaikovsky International Competition and the first violinist to win the Avery Fisher Prize.
Gilad is the music director of the Colburn Orchestra at the Colburn School of Music in Los Angeles.
