Lifeguard tryouts at NPHS pool

Conejo Recreation and Park District will hold open tryouts for lifeguards at 8:30 a.m. Sat., April 26 at the Newbury Park High School pool, 456 Reino Road, Newbury Park.

The available summer lifeguard positions cover different certifications.

The Lifeguard position is open to anyone 16 years of age by June 14 and requires the candidate to be certified in Lifeguard Training.

The Instructor position requires the candidate to be 16 years of age, have lifeguard training and be water safety certified.

Salary ranges from $8.45 to $11.80 per hour.

The required skills to pass the swim test are being able to swim 300 yards and a 10 pound brick tread for 60 seconds. All skills are assessed with a pass or fail. Candidates who pass are immediately given an application and sent into the interview process. Proof of age is required.

Certification courses are available for registration at www.crpd.org.

Lifeguards hired by CRPD are eligible for reimbursement of certification fees at the conclusion of successful summer employment.
