Newbury Park site of home invasion robbery

A man slashed with a knife was taken to Los Robles Hospital after four men armed with guns and knives stormed a Newbury Park condominium occupied by the victim and two other men, a police report said.

The knife-wound victim is said to have told the robbers he had no money before he was slashed several times, the police report said. He didn't have life-threatening injuries, and the two other men weren't wounded, police said.

After forcing their way inside, the suspects ransacked the condominium and left with an undisclosed amount of valuables after the March 20 home invasion robbery, according to authorities.

The male robbers are thought to be Hispanic and in their 30s or 40s. They fled in a beat-up gray or silver newer model van, Detective Eric Buschow said.

Police were summoned to a home in the same 600 block of Avenida de la Plata in Newbury Park on May 8, 2006, after two Hispanic males, one in his 40s and the other in his 30s, allegedly forced an adult male to open his door and then handcuffed him. Jewelry and an undisclosed amount of cash were stolen. The intruders both displayed handguns and fled in a red minivan.

Although last week's crime sounds similar to that home invasion robbery, Sgt. Steve Sagely said he didn't believe last week's robbery was committed by the same people.

That particular block was listed in 18 Sheriff's Blotters in 2007 and in five Sheriff's Blotters so far in 2008.

Police are continuing to investigate, Sagely said.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call investigators at (805) 494-8201.

Ventura County Crime Stoppers will pay up to a $1,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and criminal complaint against the people responsible for this crime. The caller may remain anonymous and the call isn't recorded. Call Crime Stoppers at (805) 494TALK (8255).
