Weathersfield Elementary School is awarded for teaching technology

Weathersfield Elementary School in Thousand Oaks recently received a $2,000 Teach Award from Best Buy Co. Inc. for integrating interactive technology into its curriculum.

For the past 10 years kindergarten teacher Lynn Quick has been developing a technologybased phonics program to teach the primary students at Weathersfield how to read. With the grant, Quick will update her classroom computer with a new Macbook.

This year Best Buy gave awards of $2,000 to 1,300 schools to sustain or enhance existing educational programs. An additional 50 schools received $10,000 for technologybased programs they've implemented.

Over the past four years, nearly 5,000 schools nationwide have recieved $14 million in Teach Awards, reaching 1.5 million students in grades kindergarten to 12.
