The weekend's best bet: Dodgeball in Westlake

Looking for a little something different this weekend? Try playing dodgeball, or at least go watch others fight for survival if you're too chicken to compete.

The Performance Zone in Westlake Village is hosting its firstever Dodgeball Tournament Sunday beginning at 10 a.m. The event will serve as a qualifier for the National Amateur Dodgeball Association.

Teams featuring six active players will compete in four different divisions throughout the day, said Performance Zone owner Terry Hudson.

The action begins with a middle school division, followed by high school (noon), college (2 p.m.) and adult (4 p.m.) divisions. The adult division will likely feature players that are at least 30 years old, Hudson said.

According to the owner, youth football players from the Moorpark Saints, T.O. Titans and Westlake Braves have already signed up to do battle in the middle school division.

Oaks Christian and Westlake will field high school teams, with Moorpark and Cal Lutheran students expected to face off in the college division.

Signups are still being accepted. The price is $90 for a six-member squad, although teams can have additional players on their rosters.

Proceeds help benefit the My Stuff Bags Foundation.

The Performance Zone is located at 5321 Sterling Center Drive in Westlake. For more information, call (818) 889ZONE or visit the website www.theperformancezone.com. - Stephen Dorman
