Save Meadows: Make it an 'arts magnet' school

It's critical that "CVUSD must evolve to stay competitive," as Aimee Freeman said in her Feb. 28 letter to the Thousand Oaks Acorn. One step in this direction is to make Meadows Elementary School, one of the schools targeted for closure, an arts magnet school. Our principal, faculty and parents have innovative programs already in place to accelerate this goal.

The arts emphasis is a legacy on our campus and has been woven throughout our standards-based curriculum for decades.

We have further enhanced its focus into the educational experience to benefit all students.

Making Meadows a magnet school will open admission policies to increase enrollment, attract diversity and foster excellence. This is CVUSD's opportunity to create the momentum for the positive change our community is demanding.
