Student Congress event will be next Thursday

Students from all five Conejo Valley Unified middle schools will face off in a Student Congress event on Thurs., March 13. A coach at each school puts together a team of kids who want to participate. Those students then research five or six topics designed by the coaches at a meeting earlier in the year. The teams meet after school to work together, share information and gather evidence to use to argue both sides of the topic, said Los Cerritos Principal Elly Love.

At the Student Congress event, the teams present their sides and judges score each team's performance for content, poise and other criteria.

The event will be at the Thousand Oaks Teen Center from 9 a.m. until noon.
