Presenters can explain 911 system to groups

The dispatchers of the Ventura County Sheriff's Communications Center have developed presentations to share behind the scenes information about the 911 system with the public. The program will answer common questions and reduce the apprehension that some callers may have when dialing 911.

The dispatchers will identify situations that are appropriate for 911 and will discuss some of the questions callers may be asked, in addition to describing tools used to communicate with TTY users and non-English-speaking callers. They will also explain the differences between using wireline and wireless devices to dial 911 and how it impacts the calltaking process.

Presentations are available for schools, churches, Spanishspeaking communities, neighborhood watch groups and other service groups. Presentations for children include ageappropriate information, including workbooks, coloring books and stickers that illustrate the proper use of 911.

The 911 emergency number is a valuable tool, and the public should use it whenever they need assistance from law enforcement, fire or emergency medical services.
