Thank you, Acorn, and your writer for opening our eyes

We want to congratulate the T.O. Acorn and staff writer Nancy Needham for the excellent article on T.O. resident Larry Mack and his dog, Scubbers, in the Feb. 14 edition of the Thousand Oaks Acorn.

This article is a shining example of the power and impact of local journalism.

Bringing Larry's story to light not only served to illustrate one man's difficult situation but reminded us that there are many in our community who are in need of help from their neighbors.

Often, people inaccurately assume that communities such as ours are immune from economic downturns. Nothing could be further from the truth.

It's imperative that we realize there is great need, here at home, and it's up to those of us living here to address it.

After visiting Larry's store and hearing of the response to Nancy's article, our faith in the good people of our community was restored.

It's essential that we all realize we have a moral responsibility to help those who might be going through rough times.

The mark of a good society is based on how well we take care of those who need it most.

Thank you, Acorn, for leading the way.
