On schools, parents should be less judgmental

Regarding the contentious letters in the Jan. 31 T.O. Acorn, it's understandable that no parent is going to want their neighborhood school to be on the district's list for closure.

All schools in Conejo Valley Unified School District, not just Maple, have terrific programs for students, a great staff, fundraising efforts and cohesiveness within that school community.

What difference does it make if the school they close has high API scores or is a lower performing school? If they close one of the schools with lower API scores, those students will be dispersed to your neighborhood school and others in the immediate area, bringing their API scores with them.

How can we nurture our children's souls when we're so judgmental? Marie Dreitzer Newbury Park
