At the Sequoia Boys & Girls Club in Newbury Park, Shelby is vice-president of the Torch Club and instrumental in its donation drive for a Mexican orphanage. She acquainted fellow members with her Greek ancestry by spearheading a Heritage Wall. As a junior staff member she tracks the club's programs and helps run the Snack Shack.

The 12yearold, who always asks, "Do you need help today?" deals with her beloved mother's recent passing through "Family, friends, writing songs and playing soccer. I give 110 percent!"

The Youths of the Month at the Colina, Los Cerritos and Redwood clubs in Thousand Oaks are, respectively, Fabien Higarera, Abby Chopp and Jeff Wilson.
