Westlake graduate wins award for film about Nepali children

      A 2008 Westlake High School graduate has won an award for her work behind the camera during a recent trip around the world. Sarah Miller, 18, created the film "Namaste," which compares her life with those of her peers in Nepal, emphasizing the differences in their conceptions of necessity, wealth and happiness.

      The Westlake High School Art Club is hosting its first Winter Art Gallery, a display of studentproduced artwork set up in the school's library. The show began on Dec. 8 and continues through tomorrow, Fri., Dec. 19- right before the beginning of winter break.

CVUSD to offer online courses beginning this summer

      The Conejo Valley Unified School District board unanimously approved a program to offer online classes for high schoolers who want a new way to earn college credits. The pilot program will begin this summer. "We're going to try it out," said Jeff Davis, CVUSD's director of secondary education.

      The Women's Artistic Network announces the winners of its inaugural poetry contest, which drew 140 entries nationwide. Local winners are Joan D. Day of Camarillo for "The Return" and Kenneth Billau of Simi Valley for "The Naked Lady (humor).
