Poison kills dog on open space trail The Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency staff was notified last week by the state Department of Fish and Game that poison bait was found near the Skelton Canyon Trial in the Lakeview Canyon Open Space. The hiking trail extends from Westlake Boulevard to North Lakeview Canyon Road. Several piles of bait were found near the trial. One dog is known to have died from eating some of it. The bait was in the form of raw meat covered with poisoned bluegreen-stained oats mixed with small pieces of meat. Poison bait is strictly prohibited from any open space areas. The trail will be closed until further notice. Visitors to other open space areas are advised to keep their dogs on leashes in accordance with open space regulations and watch for any suspicious behavior that could be related to the placement of poison bait. Anyone who has information on this matter is asked to call Glen Kinney, supervision agency ranger, at (805) 381-2741. |
