     FUTURE ARTIST?— Westlake High School sophomore Phoebe Ng's artwork was judged the best by a panel of local educators and scientists from among 60 entries countywide. Phoebe's drawing, inspired by the 2009 Science Fair's theme, "Today's Dream is Tomorrow's Science," will be featured in posters, fliers and packets publicizing the 55th annual Ventura County Science Fair, which will be held March 24, 25 and 26 at Seaside Park in Ventura. Phoebe's sister, Cohberg Ng of Thousand Oaks, won the annual contest two years in a row, in 2005 and 2006.

Cake baking at Jewish academy
      The Conejo Jewish Academy will host a workshop on "The Art of Cake Baking and Decorating" as part of the Ladies' Night Out series at 7:30 p.m. Mon., Dec. 15 at 30345 Canwood St., Agoura Hills. Talia Broner will show simple techniques for creating cakes for all celebrations, from baking to icing to decorating.

      The La Reina High School Regent Performers will present "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory." Shows will be Fri., Dec. 12 at 7 p.m.; Sat., Dec. 13 at 2 and 7 p.m.; and Sun., Dec. 14 at 2 p.m. Willy Wonka is played by Kelsey Redmond, and Charlie Bucket is portrayed by Marnie Vaughn.

Feeding the hungry
     WENDY PIERRO/Acorn Newspapers READY FOR DELIVERY- Volunteers work among a sea of grocery bags filled with food during the Santa Comes to Agoura food drive. The event culminated Sat., Dec. 6 at the Do-it Center on Roadside Drive in Agoura Hills when donated food was sorted and distributed to local families in need. The event also included face painting, balloons, entertainment and a visit from Santa. It's not too late to help. Send $15 to purchase holiday turkeys for hungry families. (See page 19.)
