Blaze doused by firefighters before it spread


WENDY PIERRO/Acorn Newspapers WINDS A FACTOR- Thirty acres of steep terrain began burning at the top of the Conejo grade, north of the 101 Freeway at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday. The blaze continued for about 24 hours until the Ventura County Fire Department put it out using 150 personnel, three helicopters, hand crews, police help, fire trucks and bulldozers. They fought against 10- to 20-mph winds. The brushfire also caused a major tie-up on the 101 Freeway that lasted through the evening commute.
