The Boys & Girls Clubs of Conejo & Las Virgenes recently welcomed new staff member David DeMaio as the fitness and sports director for its clubs on the campuses of Los Cerritos, Colina, Redwood and Sequoia middle schools in Thousand Oaks and Newbury Park.

DeMaio's role will include overseeing the afterschool intramural and weekend sports leagues.

"I am very pleased that Dave is now a part of our staff team," said club president Mark Elswick. "Our new programs will flourish under his leadership, including programs which will be offered on Saturdays at our Los Cerritos Club."

DeMaio, a graduate of the University of Southern Colorado, served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1986 to 1991 and was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in 1997. He has held coaching positions at his alma mater and thYMCA in Pueblo, Colo. The Simi Valley resident haworked in youth services fomore than a decade, including aa foster care coordinator in Colorado and as fitness and sportprogram director at the Simi Valley YMCA.
