Generosity higher than expected at event in North Ranch
      Women came armed with cash to fight for local charities, and they surprised organizers with their generosity when they purchased holiday gifts at the recent Westlake Women's Club Holiday Fantasy Tea and Luncheon.

Festival of Trees coming to Sherwood Country Club
      Local volunteers from the Buena Ventura Childhelp Chapter will present the annual Festival of Trees Sun., Dec. 7 to fund their efforts to take care of 85 children who've been removed from their families. Childhelp is a nonprofit organization that works to meet the physical, emotional, educational and spiritual needs of abused, neglected and at-risk children.

Utilities Commission approves water rate hike
      The California Public Utilities Commission recently approved new conservation rate designs for California American Water customers in Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park and Camarillo. The new rates are designed to encourage conservation by increasing the cost per unit of water as consumption increases.

Leader of annual food drive will pass the torch to a new team
      For 29 years Oak Park resident George Annino has functioned as the heart and soul of the annual Santa Comes to Agoura and Beyond food drive. But this year will be Annino's last as the chief Santa organizer. The Westlake Junior Women's Club will take over the operation next year.

The Promenade to light Christmas tree
      The Promenade at Westlake will host its annual tree lighting celebration at 7 p.m. tomorrow, Nov. 21, at the shopping center, Westlake and Thousand Oaks boulevards in Westlake Village. The 60foot white fir Christmas tree from Mount Shasta will be decorated with 4,000 lights and 2,000 ornaments.

     YOUNG ACHIEVER- Bill Miller, left, Scouting chair of the Thousand Oaks Elks Lodge No. 2477, offers congratulations to Eagle Scout Thomas Blake Fields. Tom's project was re-flooring the administrative section of Ascension Lutheran Church. With the help of volunteer Scouts and Tom's family and friends, it took four days of work and 250 volunteer hours. Tom's the son of Tom and Chris Fields of Thousand Oaks. The Elks sponsor Troop No. 754, which has produced 52 Eagle Scouts over the years.

Cory, the son of Patrick and Kerry Page, is a student at Thousand Oaks High School. His service project was landscaping the Wildwood Elementary School kindergarten grounds. His troop, family and friends were to honor him at an Eagle Scout Court of Honor Ceremony at Bethany Baptist Church.

Petco to open another T.O. store
      Petco will be a new anchor tenant at North Ranch Mall. The new store is adjacent to Trader Joe's and is expected to have its grand opening in the middle of December.       The California Coastal Commission invites all students in kindergarten through grade 12 to enter the 2009 California Coastal Art and Poetry Contest.
