Volleyball league holds tryouts
      The Spectrum Volleyball Club is hosting tryouts for aspiring girl volleyball players. Tryouts and practices will be held at Thousand Oaks Spectrum Health Club, 2400 Willow Lane, Thousand Oaks. Tryouts for players ages 15 and 16 (birthdates between Sept. 1, 1990-91) will be 7:30 to 9 p.m. today, Nov. 12.

Curling rocks the house in Simi Valley
      On Saturday nights at the Iceoplex in Simi Valley, after the hockey players have hung up their skates, players of a different sport take to the ice in jeans and sneakers, wielding brooms and 40pound stones.       The Pumas 16U girls' softball team will host a fundraiser starting at 9 a.m. Sat. and Sun., Nov. 15 and 16 at Los Cerritos Middle School, 2100 E. Avenida de Las Flores, Thousand Oaks. The last game will begin about 5 p.m. The team will play competitive fast pitch softball.

Westlake golf team moves on at Northern Divisional
Warriors finish fourth at River Ridge
      Even when the Westlake High girls' golf team isn't playing its best, the Warriors are still better than the most of their competition. Although the Warriors weren't in top form Monday at the CIF-Southern Section Girls Golf Northern Divisional at River Ridge Golf Club in Oxnard, WHS still shot a 437, good enough for a fourth-place finish.

It's the question several local boys' water polo teams are contemplating as the first round of the CIF-Southern Section Division IV playoffs gets underway in earnest this afternoon. Tennis teams begin title quests
      Finally, all those grueling tennis practices start to pay off. With league play now finished, the playoffs for local high school girls' tennis teams are underway this week. In the CIF-Southern Section Division I bracket, Calabasas High is the Marmonte League's No. 1 seed after going 163 overall, 13-1 in league.
