Jewish life in Shanghai to be discussed

The Brandeis National Committee, Conejo Valley Chapter, will present "Shanghai: The Sephardic Journey of Leah Jacob Garrick" at 8 p.m. Mon., Nov. 17 at the Oak Park Community Center, 1000 N. Kanan Road, Oak Park.

Garrick is a fourthgeneration Shanghai-lander.

Baghdadi Jews began arriving in Shanghai in the 1840s. Prominent Sephardic families provided for Jewish refugees when they came to Shanghai during World War II.

Garrick lived through the war years under Japanese occupation and came to America in 1947.

The cost is $10 for reservations and $15 at the door.
