Circuit City to close local store

The Thousand Oaks Circuit City electronics store, 600 W. Hillcrest Drive, is among 155 of the company's stores that will close by the end of the year, the retailer announced last week.

Circuit City Stores Inc. said it's closing stores to trim costs. The store closed Nov. 4 and reopened the next day with liquidation sales.

"Since late September unprecedented events have occurred in the financial and consumer markets, causing macroeconomic trends to worsen sharply," said James A. Marcum, vice chair and acting president.

Marcum also said that a slowdown in the economy, along with reduced working capital and liquidity contributed to the closures of the stores.

There will still be 566 Circuit City stores open in the United States and 770 dealer outlets in Canada.
