WORKING HER HEART AND LUNGS- Second-grader Amanda Spear jumps rope with the assistance of parent volunteers. Weathersfield Elementary School's recent heart-health campaign wound down with a jump rope "exercise party." Students at Weathersfield Elementary School in Thousand Oaks recently celebrated a monthlong heart campaign and Red Ribbon Week, jumping all over heart disease and stroke by participating in Jump Rope for Heart.

Kids raised money for the American Heart Association and helped celebrate the 30th anniversary of the hearthealthy event.

Heart disease is the No. 1 killer in America, and stroke is No. 3.

According to organizers, this year's event was a success thanks to volunteer coordinators Janis Wieler, a secondgrade teacher, and Julie Spear of the PTA.

Parent volunteers, students and principal Jim Baird eld a success

were also credited for their hard work.
