Scientist to speak about engineering replacement organs

2008-11-06 / Health & Wellness

Nowadays people with diseased organs must wait for hardto-find replacements that their body won't reject. What if replacement organs could be grown from their own tissues when needed?

From 7:30 to 9 p.m., Thurs., Nov. 13, Dr. Bill Tawil speaks on "How to Engineer Tissues and Organs" at Baxter Biosciences in Westlake Village as part of the Discovery Center's Science Speaker Series.

"We're excited about the lineup," said Dr. Richard Elsley, director of the series. Each session will offer timely scientific ideas presented by experts, he said, who can present the ideas clearly to nonscientists, high school students and the general public.

All the lectures will be from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at Baxter Biosciences, 1 Baxter Way in Westlake Village, off Lakeview Canyon Road, just south of Thousand Oaks Boulevard.

Tickets are $15 for a single lecture or $50 for the remaining four lectures of the season. Discounts will be given to seniors, teachers and students.
