Unitarian forum examines issues The Community Forum will present a talk by Lisa Lubow of Studies for Global Justice at 7:30 p.m. Fri., Nov. 21 at the Conejo Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 3327 Old Conejo Road, Newbury Park. Her talk is titled "Converging Storms: The Crises of Energy, Capitalism and the Environment." Lubow will examine the issues facing a global system whose petroleum dependency and imperative to expand is colliding with the ecological realities of diminishing fossil fuels, global warming, resource depletion and contamination, species extinction and overpopulation. The presentation and discussion focus on understanding the situation and learning what can be done to make a difference. Lubow teaches history at Glendale Community College and is also the chair for Studies for Global Justice, a Los Angeles-based group that coordinates study sessions on 21st century capitalism. The event is free to the public. For information, call Steve Kane at (805) 551-8671 or e-mail stevekane111@yahoo.com. |
