Water companies agree
Restrictions coming soon on water use
      Water rationing, higher rates and other restrictive measures are being considered by Triunfo Sanitation District to curb water use by customers in Oak Park and a portion of Thousand Oaks. California American Water, a separate supplier for T.O. only, announced it will encourage conservation by giving customers a new rate structure.

Exchange holiday lights for LEDs
      Thousand Oaks residents will be allowed to trade in old holiday lights for new strands of LED (light emitting diode) energy saving holiday lights through an exchange event conducted by the city of Thousand Oaks Public Works Department through the Ventura County Regional Energy Alliance, in partnership with Southern California Edison.

Stark ousted from Triunfo water board
      Ron Stark, who served on the Triunfo Sanitation District board of directors for 24 years, lost his reelection bid to challenger Michael Paule on Tuesday. Stark, who's currently the Triunfo board chair, got 4,353 votes, or 47 percent of the total. Paule finished with 4,866 votes, or 52.5 percent.

Challenger for board of Calleguas Water District unseats incumbent in Division 2
      Environmental scientist Scott Quady will replace 16year incumbent Jeff Borenstein as director for the Calleguas Municipal Water District board of directors, Division 2. Quady took 43.5 percent of the vote with 14,147 votes versus Borenstein's 10,464 (32 percent.

State Senate seat might not be decided for days
      The candidates for the state Senate's 19th District seat are in a deadlock, and officials from both camps say it could be days before the winner is named. Democrat HannahBeth Jackson is ahead of Republican Tony Strickland by just 108 votes, with tens of thousands more absentee and provisional ballots uncounted.

Masry loses a third time to Audra Strickland
      For the third time in just over four years, Assemblymember Audra Strickland beat out Newbury Park resident and high school teacher Ferial Masry for the 37th District seat. Strickland captured 73,673 votes (51.5 percent), while Masry was about 4,000 votes behind with 69,646 (48.5 percent).

Democrats to meet Wednesday
      The Democratic Club of Conejo Valley will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wed., Nov. 12 at Goebel Senior Center, 1385 E. Janss Road, Thousand Oaks. Guest speaker Jose Marichal will analyze the results of the Nov. 4 election. Marichal is a professor in the political science department at California Lutheran University.

Gallegly handily reelected to Congress
      U.S. Rep. Elton Gallegly (RThousand Oaks) has clinched his 12th term in California's 24th Congressional District, capturing 126,052 votes (58 percent). Gallegly beat a once littleknown candidate, Democrat Marta Ann Jorgensen, who garnered 91,289 votes (42 percent).

      Two-time Olympic medal winner Terry Schroeder was a little worried. Asked to speak at Hillcrest Christian School about coaching the 2008 U.S. Olympic water polo team to a silver medal victory, he was nervous about facing the kindergartners.

Dan's service project was making body backboards for his Westlake High School advanced anatomy class.       Girl Scouts of California's Central Coast is hosting an "Enchanted Evening" for girls ages 5 to 11 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Sat., Nov. 8 at Ascension Lutheran Church, 1600 E. Hillcrest Drive, Thousand Oaks. This event is for girls who want to learn about becoming a Girl Scout. Girls must be accompanied by a parent for this event.

Postcard sales will help shelter
      The Agoura Animal Shelter is sponsoring a fundraiser for Malibu Pet Companions, the nonprofit group that supports funding for medical care for the homeless pets at the shelter. The shelter is selling postcards whereby a person can make a donation in someone's name to the organization.

35 vendors at free boutique
      Horizon Hills will hold its fifth annual holiday boutique from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thurs., Nov. 20 and Fri., Nov. 21 at the Horizon Hills Campus, 33 Greta St., Thousand Oaks. Artist paints gift for city
      Local artist Bob Rickards was commissioned in 2007 by the Stagecoach Inn Museum Foundation to complete an oil-on-canvas rendition of Stagecoach Inn in Newbury Park. At a recent City Council meeting, the foundation made a gift of this work of art to the city of Thousand Oaks.
