Churches raising funds for Sudan refugees
      Local Lutheran churches will host a fundraising concert featuring the Albert McNeil Jubilee Singers at 6 p.m. Sun., Nov. 2 in the sanctuary of Ascension Lutheran Church, 1600 E. Hillcrest Drive, Thousand Oaks. The goal of the benefit is to raise $125,000 to help victims of war and poverty in the southern Sudan.

New pastor installed at King of Glory
      The Rev. Todd Payne will be installed as the new pastor at King of Glory Lutheran Church at 9:30 a.m. Sun., Nov. 30 in the church sanctuary, 2500 Borchard Road, Newbury Park. Bishop Dean Nelson from the Southern California Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America will officiate at the installation. A catered luncheon will follow the service.

Brain-religion link subject of CLU lectures
      A doctor will discuss the relationship between the brain and religion at California Lutheran University in two lectures on Mon., Nov. 17 at Samuelson Chapel on campus, 60 E. Olsen Road, Thousand Oaks. Dr. Andrew Newberg, director of the University of Pennsylvania Center for Spirituality and the Mind, will present "Why God Won't Go Away" at 10 a.m.

Lecture at Conejo Jewish Academy comes to Agoura Hills
      The Conejo Jewish Academy will host a lecture by Yakov Parisi at 8 p.m. Mon., Nov. 3 at the Academy, 30345 Canwood St., Agoura Hills. The talk is Parisi's own life story, titled "A Pastor's Journey to Judaism: The intriguing story of an evangelical pastor and his discovery of Judaism.
