The Acorn's High School Football Game of the Week
Newbury Park Panthers (4-1) at Westlake Warriors (3-2) Friday, 7 p.m.
      No matter how you say it, 2-1 sounds a whole lot better than 1-2. Westlake and Newbury Park were co-champions of the Marmonte League in 2007, but, barring a tie, one team will find itself 1-2 in league play after Friday night's game at Westlake.

Undefeated Warriors closing in on fifth consecutive Marmonte League title
      There's strength in numbers for the Westlake High girls' golf team. With a roster featuring six quality players who are all capable of shooting a match-low score on any given afternoon, the Warriors are off to a 17-0 start this season, including a 12-0 mark in the Marmonte League.

State-of-the-art scoreboard an eye-opener at WHS
      Coaches might not have time to marvel at the scoreboard during a game, but fans sure do. Westlake High installed a 24-foot-by-20-foot video screen on its scoreboard on Sept. 25, the day before the Warriors football team trounced Hart of Newhall, 42-20.

Newbury Park Girls Softball to have registration drive
      Newbury Park Girls Softball will hold a registration drive from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sat., Oct. 18 at Borchard Community Center, 190 Reino Road, Newbury Park. NPGS board members will be available to answer questions and register players ages 4 to 14.
