School district to add online classes Conejo Valley Unified School District is gearing up to offer online classes for eighth- through 12th-graders who want additional credits for college in the summer. The courses will be offered through University of California College Prep and are University of California and California State University approved. Jeff Davis, director of secondary education, said the classes will be "highly interactive" and incorporate flash, video, games and photographs. Health education, honors psychology and honors sociology are the three classes that will be offered for $150 each. They will be monitored by CVUSD teachers. "It's a great thing," Davis said. "The students are given additional opportunities, and the teachers get jobs." Thirty-five to 45 students will be allowed in each course. UCCP courses are free to California school districts until June 2010 with the understanding that the district will provide usage data and basic student information for UCCP to report to its state funding partner. Information is only reviewed by approved UCCP personnel, Davis said. - - Joann Groff |
