Rescued horses need extra help from community volunteers

The Humane Society of Ventura County is reaching out to the community for extra help and assistance in the care of 13 severely neglected horses that were rescued by Animal Control officers and humane officers from a local ranch on Sept. 25.

The county veterinarian determined that 13 horses should be taken into protective custody for immediate medical treatment and care. The horses were signed over to the investigating humane officers.

The horses were severely emaciated and will require medical treatment and a special diet for recovery. The Humane Society is seeking financial assistance from the public to feed and nurse the horses back to health. The horses will be available for adoption once they have recovered.

Donations may be sent to the shelter at 402 Bryant St., Ojai, CA 93023.

The Humane Society of Ventura County receives no government funds and relies entirely on public donations. For more information, call (805) 646-6505 or visit www.humanesocietyvc.org.
